KARACHI: The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) to foster academic collaboration.
The MoU aims to facilitate faculty and student exchanges, as well as the sharing of academic and research resources between the two institutions.
According to a spokesperson for ICCBS, University of Karachi, the agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, University of Karachi, and Dr. Tahir Usman, Chairman of Livestock Production at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, AWKUM. The signing ceremony took place at the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, University of Karachi, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Asmat Salim and other officials.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen highlighted ICCBS’s international reputation as a leading research center of the University of Karachi. She emphasized that ICCBS, recognized as a Category-2 Centre under UNESCO, plays a key role in training scholars from around the world in chemical, biological, and biochemical sciences. She added that ICCBS is committed to maintaining high educational standards in accordance with both national and international regulations.
Dr. Tahir Usman commended ICCBS’s research and academic facilities. Discussing AWKUM’s achievements, he noted that it is a top-ranked public sector university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recognized for its academic excellence and research contributions. He stated that AWKUM has consistently ranked among the top universities in Pakistan, securing a leading position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa according to recent Higher Education rankings.
AWKUM comprises four faculties—Chemical and Life Sciences, Numerical Sciences, Business and Leadership, and Social Sciences—offering over 100 degree programs across various disciplines.
As per the MoU, ICCBS and AWKUM have agreed to collaborate on joint research projects, faculty exchanges, student co-supervision, professional training workshops, courses, seminars, and initiatives in health technology and entrepreneurship.
