KARACHI: On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to eradicating tuberculosis (TB), a disease that continues to claim countless lives and disproportionately affects the vulnerable communities of the country.
In her statement, the First Lady emphasized that TB is not just a health issue but a matter of social justice. She acknowledged Pakistan's position as one of the countries most burdened by the disease while expressing hope and optimism for its elimination.
"Our government, in collaboration with international organizations, healthcare professionals, and civil society, is implementing bold measures to strengthen the healthcare system, improve early detection, and ensure free, effective treatment for all," said Ms. Bhutto Zardari.
As an advocate for public health, the First Lady highlighted the need to break the stigma associated with tuberculosis. She urged citizens to encourage testing, support those affected, and promote awareness to foster solidarity.
"On this important day, I call upon every Pakistani to play their part in the fight against TB. Together, we can achieve our vision of a healthier, TB-free Pakistan," she concluded.
World Tuberculosis Day is observed globally on March 24 to raise awareness about the devastating health, social, and economic impact of TB and to accelerate efforts to eliminate it.
