Jinnah Hospital Staff Reject Proposed Board as Anti-Patient, Anti-Employee

KARACHI: In a joint statement, Chairman of Young Doctors Association Dr. Mehboob Nonari, President of Young Nurses Association Syed Shahid Iqbal, Hafiz Muhammad, Paramedical Staff leaders Hassan Pathan, Amir Ali Dinari, and Sajid Iqbal Mughal have expressed their rejection of the proposed Board of Governors (BoG) for Jinnah Hospital Karachi.

They stated that JPMC Karachi was transferred from the federal government to the Sindh government under an agreement, and the Sindh government has been efficiently managing the hospital. This has resulted in improved healthcare facilities for patients and satisfaction among employees with the government’s policies.

However, they alleged that a retired professor is trying to impose a bill to establish a Board of Governors for personal motives, which they termed anti-patient and anti-employee.

They claimed that under the BoG’s proposed law, the hospital would be governed in a manner detrimental to patients’ welfare and employees’ rights.

The employees of Jinnah Hospital consider the move to establish a Board of Governors as undemocratic, unconstitutional, and harmful to both patients and employees. Currently, the Sindh government is providing free healthcare services to underprivileged patients, and employees are content with these provisions.

They warned that any attempt to impose the BoG would face strong resistance from hospital employees. They emphasized that no compromises would be made on patients’ access to free healthcare and employees’ rights.

The leadership of the Doctors Association, Young Nurses Association, and Paramedical Staff also demanded that the hospital administration:

  1. Immediately stop the interference of the retired professor in administrative matters.
  2. Evict the retired professor from the residential bungalow in the hospital colony.

They warned that if the Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital fails to address their demands seriously, a general meeting of the employees will be called, and a strong protest movement will be launched against this unconstitutional and illegal initiative.
