Pakistan Orthopaedic Association Condemns Professor Faisal Masood’s Removal, Demands Restoration

241

Karachi: The Pakistan Orthopaedic Association (POA) has strongly condemned the removal of Professor Faisal Masood from his position as Medical Superintendent of Mayo Hospital, Lahore, and his public humiliation by the Chief Minister of Punjab.

In an official statement, POA Advisory Council Chairman, Dr. Tahseen A. Cheema, expressed deep concern over the treatment of Professor Masood, describing him as a highly respected academician and an exceptional orthopaedic surgeon. The statement highlighted his outstanding contributions to medical education and patient care, noting that he was managing administrative responsibilities alongside his clinical duties and had already requested to be relieved from the additional burden.

The POA emphasized that publicly insulting and humiliating professionals in such a manner demoralizes the medical fraternity, which plays a vital role in society. The statement further pointed out that such actions appear to be an attempt to divert attention from critical issues, including insufficient healthcare and education funding.

Calling for an immediate reversal of the decision, the Pakistan Orthopaedic Association urged the authorities to restore Professor Faisal Masood’s dignity and demanded a public apology from the Punjab Chief Minister.

The incident has sparked a wider debate on political interference in healthcare administration and the need to protect the respect and autonomy of medical professionals in Pakistan.
