KARACHI: The President of Sindh Medical Association Dr. Mohammad Ali Thalo has strongly criticizes Secretary Health Sindh Mr. Rehan Iqbal Baloch alleging he is acting against established Norma and fundamental principles, thereby torniahing the reputation of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
In a letter sent to the chief minister Sindh, Dr. Mohammad Ali Thalo, an activist states that the incompetent secretary health has failed to address critical administrative issues leading to growing concerns within the medical community.
He further wrote that it is regrettably submitted that certain elements within the health department, driven by personal interests, are acting contrary to fundamental norms and principles. Such practices tarnish the reputation of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Sindh government.
The health department is a highly sensitive and technical institution that requires competent leadership to manage its operations effectively. The Sindh Medical Association has received numerous complaints, some of which have been forwarded to both the secretary and minister of health. Unfortunately, despite assurances, the secretary of health has failed to address any of these grievances, he told.
The transfer and posting of doctors outside their areas of expertise reflect a clear lack of administrative and technical competence. Applicants are forced to visit the department repeatedly, as their files remain stuck for several days at each stage, pressuring them to offer bribes, Dr. Mohammad Ali Thalo alleged.
Additionally, female doctors are compelled to use male washrooms while waiting for hours outside the
secretary's office, as guards have been deployed to prevent their entry, despite the availability of a female washroom. This malpractice severely damages the credibility of the PPP and the Sindh government, heamented.
Meanwhile, other provinces, particularly Punjab, have digitized administrative processes, eliminating the need for doctors to physically visit the department. Despite repeated requests, officials in Sindh’s health department continue to resist transitioning to a digital system for personal gain.
As a longstanding member of the Pakistan People's Party, having held various positions within the party organization, and above all, being personally listed in the directory created under Benazir Bhutto's directives at Bilawal House, reserved for her most trusted workers, I cannot stand by and allow corrupt and incompetent individuals to damage the reputation of my leader’s party for their personal interests, Dr. Thalo reaffirmed.
President SMA urged the chief minister to take immediate notice of this situation.
