Karachi 12 April: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) a known tertiary health care institution of the region has now taken another monumental step by commissioning a comprehensive pediatric care center providing cutting edge treatment for the patients suffering with congenital heart diseases and complexed urological disorders.
Located at a stone throw distance from the main SIUT building the institution is called Mariyam Bashir Dawood Children Hospital in view of her family philanthropic support is built at a cost of over Rs. 7 billion. More money is in pipeline from the provincial government which will make hospital as the country's first public sector state of the art center.
According to SIUT in Pakistan every years some 80,000 to 100,000 children are born with congenital anomalies including heart defects and kidney disorders which if they left unattended can be life threatening or disability as conclusions. A spokesman of SIUT informed that access and options for such a specialized high quality care is limited for most and families seeking private care the treatment mat cost anywhere from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 3 million which may by impossible burden for any average family.
The imposing 14 story center is designed as a state of the art surgical center is fully equipped for providing cutting edge treatment to pediatric patients suffering with congenital heart diseases (adult CHD) and kidney failure who require dialysis and other complexed ailments urological malfunctioning..
Facilities of advance operating rooms, modular operating theatres and hybrid cardiac catherization lab are essential part of the hospital which will ensure that children population of the country receive the highest quality medical care par with the rest of the world.
It may be pointed out here all these facilities are free of cost as per policy envisaged by SIUT as a corner stone of its philosophy since its inception by founder of SIUT Prof Adib Rizvi who firmly believes that healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.
