Karachi: Technical health workers of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) stopped working and left counters in the Accident & Emergency department of the hospital on alleged torture incident by a police cop Mr. Arbab.
Hospital doctors told media persons that a police constable Mr. Arbab posted as the same ER department have allegedly physically abused Staff Sufyan Khan last night.
As per available details mentioned in the application of staff Sufyan Khan submitted to the hospital administration, he was on duty when a constable Mr. Arbab posted at the same emergency department started to torture him after a qurral without any justification. He has demanded an immediate action against the culprit.
In response to this incident, reception staff at the emergency department stopped working today (Saturday) and left their seats. Patients coming to seek emergency healthcare were affected for hours due to this chaos.
Young doctors of YDA strongly condemned the torture incident and said that police is there to provide security or to abuse health workers?
CM Sindh IG must immediately take strict action against involved police constable, they urged.
When contacted, Prof. Dr. Shahid Rasul, the executive director JPMC told that the area SHO is already present in the hospital and investigating the incident.
This scribe contacted the SHO Mr. Syed Imran, he told that on such allegations, the constable has been removed from the chowki (police picket) and further approproate action will be taken after inquiring the matter.
