World Hemophilia Day Celebrated with Joy and Inclusion in Karachi

KARACHI: World Hemophilia Day was observed across the globe, including Pakistan, on Thursday to raise awareness about the rare bleeding disorder. In a heartwarming celebration, the Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi organized a day full of fun, games, and entertainment for children suffering from hemophilia, providing them with clotting factor injections to safely enjoy physical activities.

Children living with hemophilia often live under the constant fear of bleeding episodes, depriving them of the simple joys of childhood such as playing and outdoor fun. For their parents, watching their children play freely remains an unfulfilled dream. However, the Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi turned that dream into reality by hosting a joyful event at Shamsi Farmhouse, Malir.

The children were able to play without fear of injury, engaging in various recreational activities throughout the day.

This year’s global theme for World Hemophilia Day focused on raising awareness about bleeding disorders in girls and women. In line with the theme, the event highlighted the importance of gender-inclusive support and care.

The event saw participation from a large number of parents, caregivers, and several notable guests, including Sindh’s Minister for Women Development Shaheena Sher Ali, former provincial minister and PPP leader Sajid Jokhio, and Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority Dr. Durrenaaz Jamal.

Founder and CEO of Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi, Mr. Raheel Ahmed, along with President Anees ur Rehman and other officials warmly welcomed the guests.

A variety of food stalls were set up, offering complimentary refreshments to hemophilia patients, their families, and other attendees during the event. Children enjoyed electronic rides, remote-controlled mini jeeps, and a mini-zoo with various animals.

The children and their families expressed immense joy and gratitude, calling it a memorable day in their lives. Many hoped for more such events in the future, where they could experience the happiness of carefree play.

Speaking at the event, Minister Shaheena Sher Ali and former Minister Sajid Jokhio acknowledged the efforts of the Hemophilia Welfare Society and assured full support from the Sindh government in raising awareness and improving access to treatment for hemophilia patients. They stressed the need for more public education on the condition.

Dr. Durrenaaz Jamal of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority and CEO Raheel Ahmed reiterated their commitment to supporting hemophilia patients and ensuring they never feel alone in their struggle.

The celebration also included a magic show and musical performances by renowned singers Arshad Mahmood and Mubashir Iqbal. At the end of the program, children participating in the games and activities received gift items.
